Madhushala : a therapy to your mind

Madhushala , which means "The Tavern", was written by Harivansh Rai Bachan in 1935. It is considered to be an important milestone in the history of Hindi literature. A highly metaphorical composition, it is quite popular even today due to its underlying philosophical qualities. It can act as a therapy to your mind whenever you need it. As the wiki page says : The poet tries to explain the complexity of life with his four instruments, which appear in almost every verse:  madhu ,  madira  or  haala  (wine),  saaki  (server),  pyaala  (cup or glass) and of course  madhushala.  Each stanza ends with the word Madhushala. Out of total 135 verses, selected 35 verses have been sung by Manna Dey.  Here are the links to both: manna dey version full poem Here is an explanation of the first rubai(stanza) : In the search of his destination, the drinker leaves his home. He notices that there many paths to his destination and he is too innocent to decide which path to ch

The disadvantage of travelling with adventurous people

This post is the result of one of my recent treks. What do I mean by adventurous people in the title? people who have no fear of trying out new things at a different place. people who want to create something great out of each moment. When you are on a trek, these are the people who are always ready to explore more. They are always willing to try out the new food at the place. Travelling with these kind of co-travellers sounds great, right? But there is a downside of travelling with them. You can not enjoy your travel with normal(read non-adventurous or 'playing-safe') people after that. Yup, that's a disadvantage ;) . Normal people have a fixed domain/comfort zone of their own, and it's very rare and difficult for them to come out of that. Most importantly, there are some who try to even impose this on you. When you travel with them, you have to first provide them a well made plan for the trip. They can't come on a trip where they don

She is there.

I wrote this almost 3 years back, in the summers of 2012. When will the ac start? 3 am the time is, and I am lying on my bed as helpless as today's economy, under these 3 blades, who are though producing some air but I don't know where it is going. Powercuts have become very common these days. I notice a ray of sparse moonlight entering the room through the window. What a pleasure it is to watch the beauty fabricated by this light on the front wall. Striking the tv screen and then scattering to the rest of the room, the light rays were never so visible before. It's quite endearing to see this accompanied by some thundering from outside. But when will the ac start. By the way, the sky is not clear today. It is only on these nights that I get a chance to take a stroll on the terrace. Its a kind of fun to point out the stars in the sky. Last time, I learned to locate the north using the Dubhe and Mirak. Sadly, I am not able to identify any galaxy today.

24 hour getaways from Hyderabad: Bidar

Distance from Hyderabad to bidar : ~130 km Buses available every 30 mins from mgbs. Fare : 120 for one side. Stay : Gurudwara Nanak Jheera, Bidar There were four of us, and this trip was planned 10 mins before taking the bus to bidar. The initial plan was to visit charminar and near by places. We left the college at 5.30 pm and reached lakdi ka pul bus station at around 6.30. There are AC buses running at this time between the two places.  We actually got down from the bus, a station before lakdi ka pul, to try the famous lassi at Shahji ka Dhaba , and it was worth it. The lassi was pretty good, but you can find a better one at Agra Sweets and Mithai, in Ghansi bazaar near charminar. The price is 90 Rs. and the quantity is around 500-600 ml. People with a sweet tooth must try the one at agra sweets. After that, the plan was to have dinner at Hotel Shadab , which has been listed as one of the legendaries in zomato's hyderabad collection. But it was only 7 and none of
